Types of Fires & Extinguishers
Matching the right extinguisher to the right fire — class by class.
Using the wrong extinguisher can make a fire worse — water on an electrical or oil fire is dangerous, not helpful. This module teaches Nikita Industrial Securities Agency guards the fire classes and the equipment designed for each.
The Fire Classes
- Class A — ordinary combustibles: wood, paper, cloth, waste material
- Class B — flammable liquids: petrol, solvents, paints, oils
- Class C — flammable gases: LPG, methane, acetylene
- Class D — burning metals: magnesium, sodium, industrial metal fires
- Class K (F) — cooking oils and fats, common in canteens and kitchens
- Electrical fires — energised equipment; treat the power source as part of the hazard
The Extinguisher Match
- Water — Class A only
- Foam — Class A and B
- Dry powder (DCP) — Class B, C, and electrical
- CO₂ — electrical and Class B; safe on live equipment
- Wet chemical — Class K kitchen fires
On Every Post
Guards are trained to locate and read the extinguishers on their site during every patrol — checking pressure gauges, seals, and access — so the right unit is always ready.
